It is a great pleasure to congratulate you on your programme selection and to welcome you to the Wales MBA taught here in Japan. I wish you every success in your studies.

In the coming months you will be challenged by an excellent faculty team to acquire new knowledge and insights and to develop the critical, questioning skills that will serve you well as your business career develops beyond graduation.

The Wales MBA programme provides up-to-date knowledge in all the key functional areas of business management, i.e. accounting and finance, marketing, human resource development as well as insights into decision making and the operation of markets. It also offers elective modules that enable you to develop greater depth in areas of particular interest to you. A further aspect of the programme is that it will present you with a variety of cases and exercises with submission deadlines that oblige you to produce reports, analyses and management guidance under pressure of time and with incomplete information - too often the very nature of real world business!

Of great importance to the success of the MBA is the contribution that you and your fellow students make to class discussion. The sharing by students of their practical business experience and the opportunity to work in small teams on a variety of cases is as vital to the quality of your MBA experience as is the formal instruction from the professors. I encourage you to be an active participant, to contribute your ideas and be prepared to defend and even amend them when necessary - as well as questioning the ideas and arguments of others.

This questioning behaviour is encouraged even with respect to the delivery of the MBA: I know from the years of working with the programme that the faculty team are open to and interested in students’ views on any aspects of the programme that can be modified to further enhance your experience. Together with colleagues from Wales, I will be available to meet with you at least twice a year to follow up on any of these ideas and to discuss any matters of interest with you regarding the degree and the University - these are sessions that we look forward to and enjoy (at least one member of our team is fluent in the ancient but living Welsh language - which appears on your degree certificate).

I congratulate you on selecting the Wales MBA. I encourage you to take full advantage of the opportunity you have given yourself; it is now your degree. The University of Wales has been proud of the achievements of your predecessors on the programme and their abilities to balance work, family and study and to produce excellent academic results. I have no doubt that you and your classmates will continue in this tradition of excellence.

このプログラムは、ビジネスマネジメントのキーファンクションとなる会計、財務、マーケティング、人材管理ならびに意思決定や市場管理等すべての科目において最新の知識を提供しています。選択科目では、必修科目で学んだ知識を自身の興味のある分野でより深めることができます。また、プログラムの更なる一面として、提出期限の定められた課題が課せられ、時間と戦いながら、不十分な情報の下、さまざまな事例研究や分析を行い、レポートを完成させるという、実際のビジネスと同様の経験を数多く体験されるでしょう。

MBAで成功するために重要なことに、参加者同士のディスカッションが挙げられます。参加者同士がビジネスでの経験を共有しあうことや、グループで様々な事例研究を行うことは、講師陣からの指導と同様、MBA体験の大きな要素です。ぜひ積極的な参加者となってください。アイディアをクラスメートと共有し、時に他者のアイディアに反論したり説得したり、徹底的に議論することです。

問題意識をもつことは、MBAプログラム参加者として奨励されています。講師陣は、参加者のプログラムでの経験をより充実させるため、建設的な意見に高い関心を持っています。私自身、英国ウェールズ大学の担当者と少なくとも1年に二度日本を訪れ、皆様からプログラムに関するあらゆる意見を直接聞く会議に出席しており、とても楽しみにしています。（皆様の学位記にも記載されている、古来の言語で、かつ現在も使われているウェールズ語を話すことができる担当者も必ず１名出席します。）
